Regulating and Taxing Online Poker - The Benefits

January 25, 2007

With the recent action in the US regarding online poker, it's no surprise that foreign players are getting a little worried.  Although some government officials support an all out ban of online gambling, citing reasons such as addiction and economic loss, many people are advocating regulation and taxation.  Let's discuss why this would be good for online poker...

If online poker was regulated, then players would never have to worry about poker sites potentially cheating them out of money.  Also, for US players, it is getting harder and harder to get money onto online poker sites, and if online poker was allowed, there would be much safer and accepted deposit/withdrawal methods.

Now, players may complain about paying taxes on their poker winnings.  However, the rewards far outweigh the additional fee.  If online poker was fully legal and regulated, it would also bring in additional players who don't play now because of legal concerns.  Overall, it would be a great move for online poker.
